REQUIREMENTS

For North America, a conductive coating must meet UL 746C for adhesion properties. The best way to comply is to chose a coating that has been previously evaluated (Recognized) for the particular base material to which applied. Such material can be found in the UL Plastics Recognized Component Directory, under the category, Supplier Components for Use in the Fabrication of Metallized Parts (QMSS2).

In addition, the process of application of coating to the base material has to be previously evaluated. Such processes may be found under the UL Plastics Recognized Component Directory, under heading QMRX2.

DESIGN TIPS

A conductive coating usually cannot be considered as reliably earthed. As such, if contacted by the user, for example through ventilation openings, then it must be separated from live parts by double or reinforced insulation.
