Components in circuits at Hazardous Voltage are considered safety critical. Components with motors are also
considered safety critical
, as a locked motor is a potential fire or shock hazard. REQUIREMENTS
Safety critical components must comply with the relevant safety standard for that component. DESIGN TIPS
The preferred option is to use a fan which already has the relevant safety approvals. Make sure the fan has the approvals you need for your target markets (see Submitting a product to a Test House for Approval).
If you plan to submit your product to a Test House, you will probably be required to submit a copy of the safety approval license of the fan together with your product. The
Test House needs the certificate to authenticate the approval and to ensure that you use the fan in accordance with any Conditions of Acceptability which may be specified
as part of the approval. The supplier of your fan should be able to get you a copy of the license. Fans which are not approved will be tested under locked
rotor conditions, within the framework of your product's investigation. This is liable to increase the cost of testing.
MANUFACTURERSYou can get information on fans from the following list of manufacturers. ADDA
