REQUIREMENTS

The operator shall be protected against access to hazardous moving parts.

The mechanical construction of the product must prevent access to hazardous moving parts.

Areas that can be accessed without the use of a tool (e.g. screwdriver) must also prevent access to hazardous moving parts. As an example, a door allowing access to internal parts of equipment where there are hazardous moving parts, must not be secured with a handle or knob that allows the door to be opened without the use of a tool.

The mechanical construction must prevent hazards from internal moving parts that may become loose and be thrown from the equipment.

In some situations where hazardous parts cannot be made completely inaccessible (e.g. paper cutter), and where the hazard is obvious to the operator , a warning adjacent to the hazardous area may be used.

Edges and corners must be rounded or smoothed so as not to be hazardous to the operator.

Accessibility is checked with a test finger, applying a force of 30N.
