REQUIREMENTS

Enclosures shall have adequate mechanical strength and shall be so constructed as to withstand such rough handling as may be expected in normal use.

Mechanical strength is tested by the steady force test and :

for handheld equipment, the drop test

for other equipment, the steel ball test.

Enclosures of moulded or formed thermoplastic materials must comply with the stress relief test.

After the tests the product must not be hazardous, for example electrical and mechanical hazards must not be accessible, creepage and clearance requirements must still be adhered to.
